Last Sunday, I found myself in a familiar place - juggling the chaos of life. Between home responsibilities, family, business, workouts, and spiritual growth, my prayers had become a quick checklist. "God, bless my day. Help me get through this week." They were wish-washy, surface-level whispers.
But then, sitting quietly with my Bible, I remembered my single season. Back then, I was specific…
I prayed for a husband who would lead in prayer, who would be patient with my healing, who would choose me on purpose. And God answered those prayers in ways I could never have imagined.
It hit me - maybe the reason some prayers feel unanswered is not because God isn't listening, but because I'm not being clear.
Imagine typing "somewhere nice" into your GPS. No address. No destination. Just a feeling. The app cannot route you anywhere because it has nothing to work with. You are not lost because the GPS is broken. You are lost because you never told it where you were going.
Most of our prayers sound like that. "God, bless my future husband." "God, help my finances." "God, make this season easier." Vague requests sent up into a vague sky, and then we wonder why we cannot see the answer land.
James 4:2-3 says you do not have because you do not ask. And when you do ask, you ask wrongly. Not wrongly because your heart is bad. Wrongly because your prayer has no address.
George Müller understood this better than almost anyone in church history. He ran orphanages in 19th century England with no fundraising, no asking for donations, no marketing. Just prayer. He kept records. Over 50,000 specific prayers, answered. Not vague hopes that things would work out. Named requests. Exact amounts of money. Exact needs, on exact days. He once prayed for breakfast when there was no food in the house and no money to buy any - and a baker knocked on the door that same morning, unprompted, with enough bread for everyone.
That is what happens when a specific prayer meets a faithful God. 🙏
Mark 11:24 does not say hope vaguely and see what happens. It says believe you have received it. You cannot believe you have received something you never actually named.
So this week, before you pray again, get specific.
Not "bless my future husband." Try this: "God, I am asking for a man who leads in prayer without being asked, who is patient with my healing, who chooses me on purpose, not out of loneliness." Not "help my finances." Try: "God, I need $400 by Friday for rent, and I am trusting You for it."
Specific enough to know exactly when it is answered. Specific enough that you cannot explain it away as coincidence.
That is the prayer God can move on. That is the prayer that builds your testimony.🙏🫶🏽

Heavenly Father, thank You for hearing our prayers, even when they are imperfect. Help us to come to You with clarity and faith, trusting that You know our needs before we even speak them. Guide us to pray with specificity, believing that You are faithful to answer. In Jesus' name, Amen.
